Displaying icons for your site in bookmarks and the address bar
When someone adds your website to their bookmarks/favourites list, you can personalise the bookmark and make it easier to find again by having an image display alongside the entry. The image will also be displayed in some Web browsers (such as Internet Explorer) on the address bar of the person visiting your site.
Simply place a 16 × 16 pixel icon named "favicon.ico" into your website's root directory.
If you don't have an image editor installed on your computer that can save *.ico icon files, there are many free programs available to download from the Internet.
This feature is only supported by compatible Web browsers.
